Who should choose which
Choose Windscribe if:
- Best free tier in the category: 10 GB/month, 11 server locations, no device limit
- Build-A-Plan starts from $1/month if you only need 1-2 regions
- ROBERT (custom blocklist) is the most configurable ad/tracker blocker we've tested
Choose TunnelBear if:
- Annual full security audit by Cure53 since 2016 — longest audit history in the category
- Published audit results publicly including vulnerability disclosures — nothing hidden
- Free tier: 2 GB/month (as of 2026, the server is auto-assigned — manual location choice now requires a paid plan)
